Strolling through downtown San Francisco it’s hard to miss the Parisian style kiosks installed in the 1990s. Many were designed as newsstands, but as sales plummeted, 70 were shuttered. In 2010, the architecture firm of HOK, initiated re:News, a project to repurpose neglected street furniture.
In collaboration with HOK and JCDecaux, CAI brought art to the streets of San Francisco–converting 5 newstands into the Kiosk Museum. For 5 years, CAI presented dozens of bite-sized installations in these always-open public spaces.
