Community Arts International was hired as the advisor to Safdie Associates to recommend appropriate international artists for the $8 billion project. The artists selected by Moshe Safdie created eight site-specific, architecturally integrated works that form an Art Path through the property. This is one of the largest art commissions ever completed as part of the integrated architectural process.
The sites feature a glass façade, water elements, suspended sculptures, standing sculpture, murals, and a site-specific ceramic installation. International artists from the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Malaysia were commissioned, including James Carpenter and Stephanie Hui, Antony Gormley, Sol LeWitt, Ned Kahn, Zhan Wang and Zheng Chongbin.
CAI advised on all phases of the project, monitoring the artists’ scope of work through commissioning, fabrication, shipping, and installation. Work included negotiating contracts and budgets, managing artist schedules, developing informational packets for the government of Singapore, assembling appraisals of the artwork, maintenance reviews, conservation reports, and all details necessary to bring this project to fruition.
